I design and create one of a kind handbags using full grain leather and upcycled Guatemalan fabrics. Each unique piece, made by me and my team, blends handmade vintage shirts and skirts with full grain leather. These shirts and skirts are handwoven and no two are the same. The cloth I incorporate into the bags is sourced from indigenous women who run the family business. I work alongside another indigenous family in Guatemala to bring these bags to life. I supply the fabric and my designs/patterns for the bags, then I start my creative process of deciding what styles of bags will be made from each piece. Next is the process of pairing colors, cutting pieces of fabric and leather, gluing foam to the back of the fabric, then thinning the seems to be sewn together with the leather. I also stamp my logo into the leather with a hydraulic machine. Once all these processes are done we are ready for the sewing machine. The family that I work alongside with helps me in the sewing process to complete the bags. Together we make beautiful and functional bags which provide dignified work for them and an incredible slow fashion product for your attendees.
